So, today I watched my second movie, Happy Patel. Everyone knows it’s an Aamir Khan production. Aamir Khan has a cameo in it after a long time. Imran Khan is also making a comeback with this film. And the trailer gave off the vibe that the movie would be made in the style of Delhi Belly.
Now, how much of that is true and how much is false, let’s spill some tea!
When I entered the theater, one thing was clear in my mind: there was going to be chaos on screen, and honestly, the movie didn’t disappoint.
This film leaves logic at the door, delivering nothing but pure madness. But the madness that unfolds provides entertainment, and that’s what’s most important.
Humor & Dialogues: Strictly for Gen Z?
At the beginning of the film, you’ll think, “Wait a second, I didn’t come here to watch an English movie, did I?” And after about 15 minutes, the film itself acknowledges this and tells you, “Don’t worry, you’ll be watching the movie in Hindi now.” I was like, “Huh?” The filmmakers really played a clever trick! They understood the audience perfectly and incorporated that into the film.
This movie specifically targets the Delhi Belly type of audience and youngsters because it has references and words that today’s social media-savvy audience will quickly understand.
Even Vir Das’s dialogue delivery, with his English accent, is hilarious; his words will definitely make you laugh. Saying “John” instead of “Jaan,” “Lakdi” instead of “Ladki,” “Tom” instead of “Tum,” “Kikdi” instead of “Khidki,” “Dhoklebaaz” instead of “Dhokebaaz,” and “Insane” instead of “Insaan”—honestly, it was all very quirky and unique.
Direction & Screenplay: Does it match Delhi Belly?
First, let me make it clear: if you’re expecting a serious spy thriller or an action film in the vein of the Tiger War universe, you’ve come to the wrong place.
Happy Patel is a loud, unapologetic, and absurd comedy. Its tone is strongly reminiscent of Delhi Belly.
The filmmakers know exactly what they’re making, and they carry that playful spirit throughout the entire film. However, the sharp writing and consistency of Delhi Belly are somewhat lacking here.
This film is like a rollercoaster. Sometimes it’s up, sometimes it’s down. Some jokes land so spontaneously that you’ll be laughing uncontrollably. But in some scenes, it feels like the writers relied more on noise and chaos than on actual writing.
Performances: Imran Khan Steals the Show
Where the script falters a bit towards the end, the actors manage to salvage the film.
Mithila Palkar’s dance was mind-blowing; those who have seen the movie will know which dance I’m talking about.
And yes, the cameos are pure fan service moments. They might not add any depth to the story, but they’re enough to get whistles and applause in the theater.
Now, let’s get to the main point:
Imran Khan.

Seeing this guy on screen after so many years felt like a personal reunion. To be honest, he looked handsome. His charm is still the same. That screen presence is still there. Even if the movie has flaws, they are all forgiven because of Imran Khan. It was genuinely nostalgic and satisfying to watch him.
Is Happy Patel Family Friendly?
So, look, Happy Patel isn’t perfect. Don’t try to apply logic to it. But if you like the kind of madness found in films like Delhi Belly, then this movie is made for you.
It’s a mindless entertainer guaranteed to keep you hooked. However, be warned: the swearing and below-the-belt humor make it strictly a ‘watch with friends’ experience, not for family viewing.
It’s a two-hour movie. It’s short and fast-paced.
So, overall, 3.5/5 stars.
See you soon.
