Mrs. Deshpande Review: 3/5 – Watch for Madhuri Dixit, Not the Mystery | JioHotstar

I think you should watch this new series starring Madhuri Dixit and Priyanshu Chatterjee, the same actor from “Tum Bin,” whose songs became very famous when T-Series was a relatively new company.

This series, “Mrs. Deshpande,” is available on JioHotstar. When you watch it, you might start to appreciate Madhuri Dixit even more as an artist. Although she looks a little older than her age, she has poured all her experience into this series.

Here, she plays a serial killer who becomes a suspect again. She’s already in jail. In the present time, some murders are happening, and they are being committed in the same style as Mrs. Despande’s.

So, did Mrs. Deshpande commit them?

While investigating this, the police, specifically Priyanshu Chatterjee and his subordinate, start interacting with her, and it becomes apparent that she can help in finding the actual copycat.

  • Now, why is this person a copycat?
  • What is their history?
  • Why were so many murders committed in the first place?
  • What does this new person want?

The entire investigation unfolds, and gradually, some emotional elements also come to the surface.

You can’t really guess much because the director doesn’t reveal too much.

A French series called La Mante was released in 2017, and the Korean industry later adapted it into a series called Queen Mantis. I haven’t seen the original, nor the Korean version. But in this series, you’ll definitely find that the suspense element builds up over the course of two or three episodes. Then, things gradually start to be revealed.

So, as far as the acting is concerned, and the opportunity to see Priyanshu Chatterjee again, and to see some other actors giving excellent performances, you’ll enjoy all of that.

The production quality is decent, neither good nor bad.

As far as the suspense is concerned, I would say that the guesswork starts after the middle of the series, and some people’s guesses will be quite accurate.

Additionally, when considering the screenplay, is it engaging enough?

The first two to three episodes are somewhat engaging. After that, the screenplay becomes a bit melodramatic. The quality of the series starts to decline towards the end. But the actors have tried their best to salvage it.

In terms of direction, it feels a bit dated. It doesn’t feel like it was directed in today’s time. So that’s a slight drawback. And since it’s an adaptation, you have older references of how the story was executed. They’ve tried to bring in some new elements and an Indian touch. They’ve attempted to address the issues of this region, and it transforms into a revenge drama.

It’s definitely a one-time watch. It’s interesting. It shouldn’t receive too much criticism.

From AyushSpillsTea, it gets 3/5.

I don’t follow hype. I analyze it, review it, and call it out when it’s trash.
