Prime Video’s Operation Undead Review: Unique but Not Unmissable

Now, if you watch Thai movies, you’ll know that Thai movies present blood, violence, or gore very differently.

Agree or not?

Their concept presentation is a bit different. Even if the idea already exists in other industries, their approach and tone still feel unique. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

With this expectation in mind, I was watching a zombie movie called Operation Undead.

I was already hoping that since it’s Thai, I’d get a different experience.

And guess what?

Exactly as I expected, this movie turned out to be a completely different take on the concept of zombies.

Now the question is, should you watch this movie or not?

Let’s spill some tea.

Basic details

You can watch this movie on Prime Video, and it’s also available in Hindi dub with subtitles. I’d like to offer a small suggestion: if you can watch it in its original language with subtitles, try it that way, as the Hindi dubbing isn’t perfect. Your ears will bleed. Literally, if you watch it dubbed the way I did, you’ll regret it.

You won’t see anything obscene, but you will definitely hear abusive language.

The movie depicts a lot of blood, violence, and brutality within the first ten minutes. So, it’s best not to watch it with children.

And, of course, avoid watching this movie while eating.

Story

Image not mine; belongs to its rightful owner.

The story is set during a time when the Japanese and Thai armies were at war.

What happens is that the Japanese army develops a virus that transforms humans into zombies. They test this on a Thai battalion. This means that it consists of young soldiers who have now completely transformed into zombies.

Forgive me, I won’t reveal what happens next.

But don’t assume the same zombie stories you’ve seen will be presented. No, the zombies here will talk; they have emotional layers, they care about their families.

I totally understand that many questions may be popping up in your mind: how? Why? And what will happen to the soldiers at the end? To find out, watch this movie.

Operation Undead review

The movie’s concept of zombies was interesting. And it felt a bit fresh.

The way the zombies were presented was unique. I’ve rarely experienced anything like it before.

Zombies were talking, they had emotional feelings, and they were even able to understand what was right and wrong.

Yes, it was definitely a bit different for me. And it will be different for you, too, if you enjoy zombie movies and web series.

As I mentioned at the beginning, the film is full of brutality and a lot of action. And the action sequences were at every level, which, you know, was as much fun as a roller coaster.

Secondly, the zombies look, or the way this movie was shot, the real locations, like the jungle, were a treat to watch. Nothing was lacking.

But, but, but

The problem is that the story of this movie sounds and looks great on paper. But the way its makers have executed it doesn’t connect you.

You enjoy the movie in its movements, but you probably won’t be able to enjoy the movie as a whole. And its major drawback is the writing, which feels very uneven when you sit down to watch it.

There’s plenty of brutality. But the execution isn’t hard-hitting or thrilling enough to give you goosebumps. No, everything will feel okay.

I won’t dwell on the loopholes much now.

I’ll just say this: if you want to watch a zombie movie that offers a slightly different take on the concept of zombies, a slightly different flavor. The characters and story of the movie shouldn’t matter to you. So, yes, you can give Operation Unhead a try for your time pass.

But the condition is that you must watch it in its original language, as the Hindi dubbing was absolutely terrible.

My rating is 6/10 stars.

If you’ve seen this movie, let me know how much you enjoyed it.

I don’t follow hype. I analyze it, review it, and call it out when it’s trash.
