So I was very excited to watch this film. Why? Because it was the first big film of the year. Plus, our darling Prabhas was making a comeback to the big screen after such a long time. And the concept was quite different, too. So yes, I was very excited to watch this film.
Finally, I’ve watched the film titled Raja Saab. How is this film? If you’re a Prabhas fan, should you go and watch it in the theater? Especially, which audience does it target? Because this is not everyone’s cup of tea.
If you’re interested in watching Raja Saab and want an honest review, then you’ve come to the right place.
Make sure you set aside enough time before going to the theater. You’ll need to dedicate about 3.5 hours, considering the pre-show ads ( the Mukesh story), the interval, etc.
Now, the thing is, if this film had a different actor, you probably wouldn’t be excited about it. You would already know from the trailer what to expect in terms of quality. But since Prabhas is in it, you might have that excitement simply because one of India’s biggest superstars is in the picture.
And I had the same thinking. Plus, I like the horror-comedy-fantasy concept. So I was quite excited to see what they had created.
The Story (No Spoilers)
Now, if I tell you about the story of the film without spoilers, the story is that Prabhas lives with his grandmother. It’s a very basic plot. His grandmother doesn’t remember anything. She only remembers one thing: that Prabhas’s grandfather sometimes appears in her dreams. And she wants Prabhas to go and find his grandfather.
The Review
So, the basic plot of the movie is to find your missing grandfather. And if I have to comment on whether the picture is good or bad, I’ll just say, the movie is not good, bro.
I mean, this movie doesn’t target everyone. It’s specifically made for kids and family members. Yes, it has a lot of action, fantasy elements, creatures, monsters, horror, romance, a love angle – it has everything.
But all these things, this mishmash, only look good on paper. When you actually watch the movie, the writing feels very messy. The director had a grand vision, but he had absolutely no idea how to execute it.
There were some parts where I genuinely liked the movie. Certain elements gave you a sense of its grandeur, making you feel like, “Yes, this is a Prabhas movie.” But overall, the writing of this movie is very disappointing.
Because, honestly, the movie just doesn’t hit the mark. It doesn’t deliver the level of enjoyment it should. And the biggest reason for that is the writing, the characters you see, the world you see – you can’t connect with it.
It feels very messy and confusing. It’s like the filmmakers just showed whatever they felt like, without any explanation.
The Sequel
Additionally, they are releasing a sequel to this film.
Yes, you heard right, your ears are working perfectly fine. Yes, a part 2 of the film will also be released, titled Raja Saab The Circus.
The Performance
There’s only one thing that works in this film’s favor, and that’s our darling Prabhas. It was great to see Prabhas on screen after a long time, I mean, not just a screen, but the big screen. The level of performance he gave in this film… the guy deserves a better script.
Final Verdict
To conclude, if you are a big fan of the horror-comedy genre and enjoy fantasy movies, you can definitely go and watch this film for “time pass.” You can take your children and family members; their entertainment is guaranteed, and I can vouch for that.
But if you’re a mature viewer looking for a tough, action-packed Prabhas movie, then I’m sorry to say this film is probably not for you.
I won’t comment on the VFX and visuals; you’ve already seen them in the trailer, so there’s no point in giving my opinion on that.
Overall Rating: 6/10
